Carolyn Dawn Figal, 89, of Windsor, Colorado passed away Monday, December 16, 2024 at Columbine Commons in Windsor. She was born on August 31, 1935 in Nebraska to Howard Kahler and Adelyn (Most) Kahler. Carolyn graduated from Brush High School in 1953 and Colorado State College of Education (now UNC) in 1957 with her bachelor's degree. On December 27, 1957 she married Reg Figal in Greeley, CO and they eventually made their home in Windsor, CO.
Carolyn taught kindergarten at Tozer Elementary School in Windsor for 24 years. She was passionate about teaching children and also volunteering her time to local charities and events. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, the Lions Club of Windsor, Kiwanis of Windsor and volunteered for the Weld County Food Bank. She enjoyed traveling to Tucson, sports events, especially CU, CSU, the Bronco’s, the Rockies and the Eagles, antiquing and garage sales. Through the years you could find Carolyn water skiing, making noodles for the church bake sale, teaching at vacation bible school, singing in the church choir, leading bingo at nursing homes, attending Windsor High School sporting events, going to plays and musicals with friends, attending her bridge group, Red Hat Society functions, having lunch with the retired teachers group, calling friends on their birthday, or reading you one of her many jokes.
Carolyn and Reg were Windsor Harvest Festival Parade Grand Marshals in 1998. She and Reg were Weld United Way Volunteers of the year in 1999. Carolyn was also honored to be inducted into the Windsor High School Hall of Fame in 2014.
She is survived by her son Mike Figal and wife Tammie Figal of Greeley; sister-in-law, Pat Kahler of Greeley; nephew, Jeff Kahler and wife Rachel of Castle Pines; and niece Amy Rice and husband Scott of Parker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reg Figal, her son, David Figal and her brother William Kahler.
